Royce Reed Won’t Serve Prison Time In Child Neglect Case As Long As She Completes Community Service & Court Ordered ‘Improvement’ Classes

Reality TV star Royce Reed may have just dodged a jail sentence.

According to a recent report from Radar Online, the entertainer was approved for a pre-trial diversion program in the case involving her teenage son.

As we reported back in March of last year, Royce Reed surrendered to police after being hit with felony child neglect charges over an incident with her son Braylon Howard, 16, who she shares with famed NBA player Dwight Howard. Entering a plea of not guilty, the TV personality faced a potential 5-year prison sentence if she was convicted. However, it seems the court granted her a lifeline, the pre-trail diversion program which will reportedly include community service and mandatory classes related to the charge.

Reportedly, a letter from the Assistant State Attorney notifying the court of Reed’s admission into the program read:

“This is to notify you that this defendant has been approved for participation in the Pre-Trial Diversion Program and that this case is being continued pending contract signing and successful completion of Pre-Trial Diversion,”

Adding:

“If the defendant successfully completes this program of rehabilitation the case will be disposed of by an order of dismissal or a nolle prosequi. If the defendant fails to meet the programs objectives the case will be re-evaluated, and this office will take appropriate action.”

If you recall, Reed was first charged with child neglect after her son Braylon, who was 14 when the alleged incident happened, was found with an individual two years younger than him despite a court order barring him from doing so. Reportedly, the celebrity’s kid was previously accused of inappropriately touching other children, leading to the court order. The “Basketball Wives” star was ultimately held responsible for the situation and has been in an ongoing legal battle over the matter since, though it seems the case may close soon.

The exact nature of Reed’s program and its terms remain unclear at this time. The county website reportedly lists a general description, however, writing it involves 100 hours of community service and “improvement” classes related to the crime. Reed is reportedly scheduled for another court appearance on the matter on December 6th.
